Personal Profile

David Pasek is a Software and Infrastructure IT Architect and Visionary who programmed and sold his first commercial software at the age of 17, in 1991, when the world was not as dependent on IT as it is today. During his studies in Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague, apart from software programming, he also recognized the strength and potential of the Internet, and since 1996 he has been working as one of the first technical staff for the very first commercial Internet provider in the Czech Republic On Line (COL). COL at that time provided Internet services under the Video On Line (VOL) label later on VOLny, which means FREE. At COL, he worked as a webmaster, system administrator, database administrator, and as an architect. He was involved in the development and operation of a fully automated billing and provisioning system. Czech On Line was bought by Austria Telecom in 2000 for about CZK 8.5 billion. See. IDNES1 and IDNES2.

In 1998, David established start-up company IDC-softwarehouse, focused on Internet applications. The most successful public projects was the on-line reservation system of airline tickets, which was exposed through web portals like Letuska.cz, Letenky.cz and hundreds of others not only in the Czech Republic but also in other Central European and Eastern European countries. The online booking of air tickets in 2001 was really a great vision and challenge, which after 15 years (in 2016) may not be so obvious nowadays. These online solutions have always been provided in form of service. Such an approach was formerly called ASP (Application Service Providing) and today it is called SaaS (Software as a Service) but the principle is still the same. The on-line airline tickets reservation project (called GOL) was acquired by, the world’s premier global distribution system, Travelport GALILEO in 2016. See. TRAVELPORT-CZ and TRAVELPORT-COM.

Since 2006, David has been focusing on virtualization and cloud-based data center technologies, and he was employed as an individual technical contributor in various international companies such as Dell, Cisco, and VMware. He has obtained the highest server virtualization certification – VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) – and has often been a lead architect or lead technical designer for many major projects in the Czech Republic and abroad. From 2010 to 2014, he actively participated in the design of large cloud providers not only in the Czech Republic (Cloud4Com, Telefonica O2, etc.). See. PIB, O2, RFE / RL. David is still active and very passionate about IT infrastructure business focusing on storage and network virtualization, however, while working on infrastructure projects and clouds, David re-confirmed to himself that IT is nowadays the most important technology for a 21st-century business and business primarily needs high-quality, modern and highly available business applications. This was one of the reasons why David launched a new software project (FlexBook) back in 2014, allowing any organization to run on-line reservations of resources, events or services. This reservation platform is provided as a B2B platform, which can be fully integrated into websites of business partners and external web portals. However, FlexBook is not provided just as a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution. Instead, it is provided as a solution directly supports customer digital business. The monthly cost of using FlexBook platform is dynamic and fully depends on the success of a business partner. This model is often called “Revenue Sharing”. David believes, that this is the only way how to deliver the real value to the customers, as the IT supplier is very motivated to deliver software quality to increase customer’s revenue. The business model is inspired by Global Distribution Systems for booking airline tickets, hotels, and rental cars at various tour operators and web portals. However, the FlexBook is very modern, distributed and flexible platform usable for reservation of any resource, any event, and any service. See. FLEXBOOK website.
